Guided Visualization with Jesus
Before we begin, find a quiet place preferably in complete solitude.
You can do this in silence or with soft music in the background, your choice.
The important thing is to be comfortable in your surroundings.
Psalm 23: 1-3 (NKJV)
The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
Let’s begin . . .
You are walking in a beautiful garden on a stone path. This path winds through green grass, weaving between trees full of white and pink blooms. Flowers blossom all around in various colors—red, pink, yellow, purple, blue, white, orange.
As you walk, you look down at your feet. What do you see? Are you wearing shoes? If so, what kind? Or are you barefoot? How does the path feel under your feet? Take a moment to describe that feeling.
……
You soak in the beauty of the garden as you meander through the trees and flowers. A gentle breeze brushes past your face. You feel calm and relaxed. All the colors of the garden remind you of God’s paintbrush, and you smile at His artistry.
Continuing slowly on the path, you come to a small stream. It gently gurgles and murmurs as it flows over stones and rocks. The sound is soothing, like a bubbling fountain.
The moving stream reminds you of the living water of Jesus. You decide to put your feet in the water and allow it to wash over you. You decide to step into the cool, refreshing water. It trickles over your feet. You can feel smooth stones under you, pressing into your soles gently like a lovely foot massage.
While you’re in the stream, you notice Jesus is in the water with you! Where did He come from?! Was He there the whole time?! You decide it doesn’t matter. You’re so happy to see Him!
Jesus has His bare feet in the water, too. He bends down and splashes you with some of the water as he laughs. You begin laughing, too. Soon you’re splashing Jesus back, both of you laughing so hard your cheeks begin to ache. You feel playful, light and free. You take a moment to relish these feelings with Jesus.
After a bit, you notice a great tree by the stream. Its branches are big and full of new leaves just sprouting. Jesus lays a blanket on the grass by the tree and invites you to sit with Him as you both dry off.
You sit down on the blanket with Jesus. It’s soft and comfortable underneath your legs.
You and Jesus are so close.
He wraps His arm around you like a best friend.
At His touch, every muscle in your body relaxes.
You rest your head up against His shoulder, feeling your cheek touch the soft linen of His tunic.
Neither of you need to say a word.
You feel forgiven, loved and fully accepted by Him.
……
Stay wrapped in Jesus’ embrace as long as you want.
